E-Learning Deanship provided training for a group of faculty members from various academic campuses (men and women) to become certified instructors in e-learning and certified trainers from the organization (Quality Matters) in order to support and provide training and workshops to other faculty members and promote the culture of quality standards in the course design at the university.

eLearning Unit Activities at Al-Samer Girls' Campus

Under the guidance of Dean of Al-Samer Girls' Campus, Dr. Mona Al Mushayt, and under the supervision of the eUnit Supervisor, Ms. Maryam Awaji, the e-learning unit launched the new e-learning lab with the capacity of 64 students.

Also, number of training sessions for faculty members had been held and presented by Ms. Hajar Al-Obeidi, eLearning specialist, and training sessions for students presented by Ms. Huda Al Mushayt and Ms.Ibtisam Al-Qahtani.

The eUnit completed 41 test electronically for nearly 1,000 students in the various sections of the center included, Computer Department, Dentistry, Medicine and Surgery.

eUnit also began e-learning training series for faculty members at the center, holding ongoing training for a month starting from Saturday, 01/12/2012 to Wednesday, 26/01/2012 at several topics including the design of e-courses by quality standards (Quality Matters ), building e-courses, enhancing communication in e-courses, and electronic methods of evaluation.

E-Learning Unit sincerely thanks the faculty members Dr. Hala Samir, Ms. Siharich Aqil, Dr. Samah Samir and Ms. Talat Naz, for their cooperation, contribution and delivery of these courses.

Seminar Report "Enhancing the Quality of e-Courses"

The eLearning Unit at the College of Languages & Translation organized a seminar on the theme of “Enhancing the Quality of e-Courses” on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 from 10:45 am to 12:30 pm in the eLearning Lab A/3/86. There were two sessions. Both sessions were presided over by Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi, the Dean of the College of Languages & Translation. Dr. Abdullah Al-Walidi, the Dean of the eLearning Deanship graced the occasion as a Chief Guest. Dr. Mohmed Amin and Dr. Abdul Wahid Al-Zumor presented the detailed presentations on the theme; while Prof. Farhatullah Khan addressed the gathering as a Co-chair. 

Dr. Khalid Abumilha, Vice Dean of the College, Dr . Yahya Asiri, Vice Dean of the College for the Quality & Development, Dr. Hamad Aldosari, Chairman of English Department, and  Dr. Ahmed Ismail Assiri, Director of English Language Center also graced the occasion.

In his faculty remarks, Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi, Dean of the College of Languages & Translation , said that the importance of the eLearning in today's world cannot be ignored. The use of eLearning helps students to connect with the outer world of the classroom. Therefore, there is a need for enhancing the quality of e-Courses. And this kind of seminar fulfills the need of the hour. He praised the eLearning Unit for organizing the seminar and thanked to the eLearning Deanship for providing all kinds of support. 

 In his remarks, Dr. Abdullah Al-Walidi, the Dean of the eLearning Deanship and the Chief Guest of the seminar, said that the aim of the eLearning Deanship is to provide all kinds of support to enhance the quality of e-Courses. That's why the eLearning Deanship has introduced the Quality Matters Rubric. He also highlighted the significant of the seminar and thanked to the eLearning Unit at the College of Languages & Translation for organizing the seminar. 

 Dr. Abdul Wahid Alzumor delivered the keynote speech on "Using Quality Matters to Guide Online Course Development at KKU". He pointed out the aims and goals of the eLearning Deanship and its Quality Matters Rubric in accordance with the vision, mission and goals of King Khalid University and the National Center for eLearning and Distance Education in Saudi Arabia. He mentioned that goal no. 5 of King Khalid University states that activating the utilization of technology in order to build a knowledge-based society. And the eLearning Deanship has taken this responsibility. The eLearning Deanship has subscribed to the Quality Matters program. This program is used in many Universities of USA.  Introducing the Quality Matters, he said that it’s a leader program in quality assurance for online education whose standards are supported by the best practices and the relevant literature. The quality matters is basically a faculty centered peer review program designed to certify the quality of online courses. He focused on all the components of Quality Matters Rubric and said that all the components should be aligned with the course and the learning objectives, the assessment and measurements, with instructional material, learning interaction and engagement; and it should be aligned with the learning technology. All these basic components of the course should work together in order to achieve the quality of e-Courses. He also suggested many useful ways for enhancing the quality of e-Courses.  

In his keynote speech, Dr. Mohammad Amin, focused on the tools, which can be used to enhance the online courses. He gave the examples of the course menu. He also pointed out the use of tutor room, announcement, discussion board, blog, and journal etc. 

Prof. Farhatullah Khan, the Co-chair of the seminar, said that the introduction of the eLearning system at KKU is one of the greatest achievement. It is very significant in achieving the international academic goals. 

Mr. Mohsin Raza Khan, the eLearning Unit Supervisor of the College, delivered the introductory speech and welcomed all the guests. In his remarks, he said that "we are living in the age of technology. The eLearning is opening new dimensions in enhancing the quality of the education. And it is well said that the future belongs to virtual world. It means it belongs to the eLearning." Further, he said that keeping in mind the aim of the effective course delivery on the Blackboard, the eLearning Unit at the College of Languages & Translation organized the seminar on the theme of “Enhancing the Quality of e-Courses”. 

Mr. Andre Malan compared the seminar and Dr. Mohammad Asif Ishfaq proposed a vote of thanks. The seminar is attended by a large number of faculty members. Teachers from Community College of Khamis Mushayat, Bilqarn, and Tanuma came to attend the seminar. Female teachers also joined the seminar through video conferencing. At the end of the seminar, the eLearning Deanship and the College of Languages & Translation honored the dignitaries with mementos. Mr. Ahmed J. Al-Shaflut, the eLearning Specialist of the College, Dr. Khaled Mohanna, the eLearning Team Manager, Mr. Jawed Ahmed,  Mr. Ali Ahmed Al-Jafri, the eLearning Photographer, Mr. Nasir Al-Khatany, Mr. Ahmed Al-Shahrany, and Mr. Salahuddin Abdurab, provided all holistic supports to make the seminar a success. 


 

For the first time Full e-Courses at College of Medicine

Assuring that E-Learning is appropriate for various sciences and majors including the medical field, College of Medicine started - for the first time  - teaching 3 full e-learning courses, 2 courses from Department of Pathology and the course of Medical Ethics, in addition to 20 blended e-learning courses.

e-Unit Activities at College of Science - Abha

Training Session for the Students of College of Science on Virtual Classrooms:

E-learning Unit at College of Science conducted training session for the students of college of science on virtual classrooms, which is one of the most important tools of distance education.

The session delivered by Dr. Abulwafa Salim, E-Unit Supervisor , and was interactive and fruitful.

 

Electronic test for 101 Physics, College of Science:

Using Blackboard testing tool, E-Unit at College of Science implemented  test electronically for 101 Phys course in the presence of e-unit supervisor and course teacher, Dr. Abulwafa Salim.

The e-exam passed successfully and the students were so pleased.

Achieving E-Exams for 1235 students at College of Languages

Under the patronage of Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi , the Dean of the College of Languages & Translation, and Dr. Ahmed Ismail, the Director of English Language Center, the eLearning Unit at the College successfully conducted the first midterm examination of English Languages Center and English Department  from October 13, 2012 to October 16, 2012 on the Blackboard, eLearning system of King Khalid University. The examination took place in the eLearning Labs at Garager Campus. Approximately, 1235 students appeared in the examination. Students were very enthusiastic.

Mr. Mohsin Raza Khan, eLearning Unit Supervisor of the College, said that it was the first time when such a large numbers of students attempted the online examination. He also mentioned that students were very happy to get their result immediately after submitting their exams. 

Mr. Javed Ahmed, Course Coordinator of ENG 016, and Dr. Mohammad Asif Ishfaq guided the students how to submit their tests, check their grades and collect the feedback.

Mr. Abdullah Al-Rezgi, Mr. Khalid Badawi, Mr. Hashim Al-Asiri, Mr. Jabir Al-Thebi, Mr. Abdullah Ghanim, Mr. Musa Al-Ahmari, Mr. Slahud Din Abdul Rab, Mr. Farooq Hajji, and other teachers of the College assisted students in the examination and provided all kinds of cooperation to make the examination a success.

Mr. Ahmed J. Al-Shaflut, E-Learning Specialist of the College, Dr. Khaled Mohanna (E-Learning Team Manager), Mr. Abdul Aziz Ali Asiri, Mr. Faiz Mohammad Sehri, Abdul Wahab Sehrani, and Mr. Ahmed Abdullah Sholan were present in the Labs for providing technical support and avoiding any instance of incongruence in the examination.

Launch of 2nd phase of eLearning Skills Course

 

E-Learning Deanship announces the launch of the second phase of eLearning Skills Course at King Khalid University.

This course aims to develop the skills of the new faculty members at the university to use the eLearning systems and tools effectively and to build & manage their online courses successful.


Note: The second phase of the eLearning Skills Course is presented in both languages Arabic & English. 

The arabic course, by Mr. Mohammed Jaraallah and Ms. Nada Alshahrani, the english one, by Dr. Farouq Haji and Mr. Abdullah Zubayin.
